Lessons from 2006

As Lois nears age 1, my life's changes and milestones list grows. Here are some things I’ve learned from the past year 2006:

1. Christmas and New Year preparations MUST begin earlier, like months in advance, because once December ushers in, schedules get red hot-filled!

2. You respect your parents and love them in a new way. I now know how it feels like to come from their end.

3. You're more able to let go of all grudges, hates and fears. Maybe because along with the baby, you experience how God sends double dose of His blessings, mercy and care everyday.

4. You get in touch with relatives. What's a more heartwarming email topic than a very adorable baby picture of the latest addition to the brood? But webcams make the interaction even more fun, and thanks to Anlen for blessing us with one. Ü

5. Stranger anxiety is never real. What with all the smiles and waves Lois gets, and makes, whenever we're out I’ve proven that nothing is more effective as a baby in getting other's attention.

6. Claps, waves and other tricks are good signs to know that Lois is ok after every boo-boo. I'll panic-to-death once she stops reacting to stimuli after a major fall or stumble.

7. Cries vary in tone to convey a particular "request."

8. Babbles and jabbers are the sweetest sounds especially if they mean 'mama' (alas! she said them last Dec. 23), 'papa', 'aba', 'aso', 'kokak'.

9. Eating gets more fun because Lois has license to eat just about anything, BUT it's also a lot messier.

10. Whoever said June is the month of weddings has never been invited to any December wedding! I've been to two lovely weddings this year and they've been lovely. The Christmas air gives the event added coziness and cheer.

11. Cribs are still useful after 3 months but once baby starts cruising/walking, store them away.

11. Even 10-month old babies have huge appetite. What I do, I introduce more snak times since they've been proven to help prevent overeating and later obesity.

12. Lois is not a very good name choice for Pinoys. It's very hard to pronounce properly. So some people end up calling her 'Lowiswis' or 'Lowe'. So we just ask them to call her 'Maya'.

13. With Lois learning the pincer grasp makes it more challenging cleaning and making the house baby proof.

14. God is SOOO creative and faithful He makes a way out for me to get out of trouble even if I don't exert any effort at all. Goodbye OPP post! Welcome my own biz!

15. Independence starts with a few baby steps. Now that Lois has learned how to walk, she's preparing how to run.

16.God is always available to take me into His care and generously give me what I need and, even sometimes, what I desire?

17. There's more fun to the Christmas wrappers than the gift inside.

18. Christmas tree decors look more interesting from way below's view. Every ball, cane, bow, and flower appear yummy to eat.

19. Reunions make age differences really apparent. See, my apo? He's way bigger than my baby!

20. The most delicious meals are the ones served wholeheartedly.
