Name Game

Tams is short for Tamarits, my real name pronounced backwards. I go by other names, but I prefer this one. It's short, hard to understand especially for those I meet for the first time. Most hear it as Pams, others, as Thumbs. I choose not to correct them. I just smile really big when they address me improperly. I tell myself that they'll know it in time. Or sometimes, I just feel lazy to spell it to them because based on experience, our next 10 seconds would just be about my name and what it is not.

Friend: Tom?
Me: No, Tams!, smiling.
Friend: Ah, Thumbs! As in the finger.
Me: *flashing a big smile*

Maybe it's with the way I speak that they don't hear the T-A-M-S when I say them. There are many maybes.

Maybe, after 50 positive exposures with me and my real nick. Hey, names could be really tricky. That's why there's the excuse 'I'm not really good with names'.

Back then in high school, I wanted my name to be Patricia. So I can be called Pat. I find it funky and classy at the same time. But it's such a hassle to change names, so I just made sure my baby gets the best name for her. Lois Maya. We got Lois from the Bible, Timothy's grandmother was Lois. And the apostle Paul commended her for her faithfulness. While Maya, is the Pilipino word for the common bird which used to be the national bird before monkey-eating eagle was discovered. It also meant, a divine force in anything, in Hindu. And in Japanese, I think Maya meant something good as well. Oh, geez! I can't remember. Anaesthesia taking effect. Heheheh! :D
